Honey health science company Manuka Health New Zealand is supporting the Government initiative to curb widespread marketing of fake Manuka honey. This is to safeguard consumers and the $100 million export industry.

TVNZ’s Close Up programme on the 5th of August showed consumers were being misled by ordinary table honey being marketed as medicinal manuka. Table honey has insufficient levels of the active ingredient to justify an antibacterial claim.

Manuka Health was one of the few brands to be shown to be above label in the recent Close Up programme. Close Up carried out independent testing of Manuka Health products and found them to be above label.
