Tuesday, 30 August 2016

New Zealand based Manuka Health, the country’s fastest growing manuka honey products company, has signed today a three-year distribution agreement with Beijing-based Chao Pi Commercial & Trading., LTD.

The official agreement was signed today at the Auckland offices of New Zealand Trade and Enterprise and attended by the Minister for Trade, Todd McClay along with the senior leadership teams of Manuka Health including CEO John Kippenberger and Chao Pi Commercial & Trading, General Manager Dong, HaiXia.

Speaking at the event Minister McClay said, “The trade relationship between China and New Zealand has gone from strength to strength since the free trade agreement (FTA) was signed eight years ago. China is now our second-largest trading partner, with total goods and services trade having more than doubled since the FTA entered into force, reaching $22 billion. This announcement is a demonstration of the many and increasing opportunities available to New Zealand and Chinese businesses through valuable cooperation.”

Chao Pi will distribute the full range of Manuka Health NZ honey products to major retailers, and via online sales in China.

Manuka Health NZ CEO John Kippenberger estimates the agreement will see Manuka Health’s exports to China equate up to a quarter of the company’s volume within three years.

“We currently export to 45 countries and as our global footprint expands, our partnership with Chao Pi consolidates a large portion of our mainland China export supply chain through one major distributor. With Chao Pi we plan to grow our China business significantly as we increase our brand distribution and continue to build our brand connections with our Chinese consumers.

“The beauty of Manuka Health in overseas markets is that our natural healthcare brand is a unique combination of nature and science. Our authentic, natural Manuka credentials are important to Chinese consumers who can trust our brand and product comes from the source,” says Mr. Kippenberger.

“Today’s signing of the new distribution agreement is central to our strategy to invest in our business across our people, operations and manufacturing,” he says.

Zhang Fan, Economic and Commercial Counsellor from The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, spoke on behalf of the Chinese Ambassador His Excellency Wang Lutong, congratulating both companies for their cooperation.

The senior management of Chao Pi have travelled to New Zealand for the official signing. Chao Pi is the agent for more than 20,000 commodities and its distribution covers 20,000 retailers, as well as large online shopping providers. The company is currently developing new models for multi-platform, multi-category and multi-pattern e-commerce business.
